MALCOLM X.
37 Inscribed Photos, silver gelatin prints, most 8 by 10 inches (a
few smaller), most images apparently prepared for publication, most
inscriptions on the verso identifying images, a few with inscriptions on
separate leaves affixed to image with clips, some wear to surface and
edges throughout.
Malcolm most likely inscribed the bulk of
these images in preparation for publication in Muhammed Speaks,
the national newsletter he developed for the Nation of Islam.
Present are images from the trial of the officers involved in the Ronald
Stokes murder including one image of a white man craning his ear against
a courtroom door. Malcolm writes on a separate leaf: " Officer R.P.
Williams, waiting to testify against the 14 innocent Muslims, tries to
listen (eavesdrop) on fellow officers' testimony so he can make his
story 'fit' theirs." Other images feature Malcolm's many public
appearances at rallies and on radio and television shows. One photo
features Malcolm and Betty with their three daughters sitting with
Cassius Clay, inscribed to Robert John " May Allah Bless you with
Health & Strength & Happiness."
