MALCOLM X.
LARGE COLLECTION OF TYPED SPEECHES.
21 Typed Manuscripts
with Annotations, 215 pages, quarto, various places including New Haven,
Los Angeles, Chicago, and others, n.d., being drafts of speeches given
at universities and articles prepared for publication or distribution,
some creasing and thumbing throughout. Together with 66 Typed
Manuscripts, some duplicates present.
This lot represents
speeches and writings produced for an audience outside the Nation of
Islam temples. In several speeches delivered before university
audiences, including Clark College, Howard University, and Yale, Malcolm
explains the history and positions of the Nation of Islam. He uses stark
imagery to hammer home his separatist argument. From the speech to Yale:
" Uncle Sam is sick, because he has a black 'lump' growing in his
white body that doesn't belong there, and this black 'growth' is getting
larger every day, and increasing Uncle Sam's internal pains. God Himself
has ordained that this surgery must be performed, for if the 20 million
rapidly increasing so-called Negroes are not separated from the white
parts of the body, it will soon cause the death and destruction of Uncle
Sam."
