MALCOLM X.
11 Typed Manuscripts with Annotations, 133 pages, quarto, various
places including Los Angeles, New York, Baltimore, MD, Phoenix, AZ, and
Connecticut, n.d., being typed drafts of his radio addresses, some
staining and thumbing throughout, overall fine.
In these drafts,
Malcolm X articulately propounds Elijah Muhammed's views of Black
Nationalism, particularly regarding separatism. From a speech delivered
from the Los Angeles Mosque: " As long as we are in our former
slavemaster's house, we are dependent upon him ... as long as we are in
our slavemaster's government, we are dependent upon him. If we want
freedom we must first have our own house so we can set up our own
government. When we have our own house, our own land, then we can be
self-supporting and self-governing ... Only when we are self-supporting
can we be self-governing ... and as long as we are not self-governing,
we are still not free."
